Dayna McLeod
In November 2019, Dayna McLeod started recording herself sleeping and realized the frequency and extent of her sleep disturbances. From there came the idea of Covid Sleep, a virtual video installation that consists of night-vision surveillance footage of the artist and her girlfriend sleeping over the course of the 60-day residency. “I am interested in exploring night-vision as a surveillance technology, and its potential when we turn this tech on ourselves”, she says.
Dayna McLeod is planning on experimenting with this footage and will produce still images and weekly excerpts of her sleep to share publicly. She will also edit together her various sleep disturbances into a 30-minute digital video installation.
Artist biography
Dayna McLeod is a Montreal-based performance and video artist whose work includes themes of feminism, queer identity, and sexuality. Her performances often use humour and capitalizes on exploiting the body’s social and material conditions. Her work has been presented at OFFTA in Montreal and in many festivals and venues around the world. She has a Ph.D. from The Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society and Culture at Concordia University.
